Our History

In 1944, Michael Silver founded the firm that took his name. His accounting and tax experience soon earned him a reputation for excellence, which was reflected by his prestigious clientele. Thirty years later, in 1976, his partners Earl Holtzman and Neil Friedman took over the management of the firm. As our reputation grew over the years so has the size of our firm. Today, Michael Silver & Company consists of nearly twenty partners and sixty professionals. Our growth and expansion are a direct result of the principles that Michael Silver started the company with 60 years ago: dedication to our clients, guidance in tax and business opportunities, skill and talent in the application of accountancy, and a commitment to integrity.

Our focus continues to be the building of life-long relationships with our clients and their families, employees, and friends. Knowing and understanding the needs and dreams of our clients are our priorities because we want to exceed their expectations and turn their dreams into reality. Presently, our client list includes many of the largest privately held companies in Chicago, high net worth individuals, families and private businesses, and individuals with different needs. We treat every client that walks through our door as if he or she were our only client. Our size and capabilities allow us to provide an alternative to the Big Four, but we provide the benefit of personal relationships and personalized attention.
