Hospitality & Restaurants
Even a casual observation of the "comings & goings" of both local and trendy neighborhood restaurants proves that this industry is one of the riskiest to enter and remain successful.
Restaurateurs face a complete spectrum of business challenges, very similar to a manufacturer and a service provider. These challenges include marketing; production and cost control; management of spoilage and pilferage; preventing embezzlement; and ensuring customer satisfaction, all of which can make it difficult to run a profitable establishment.
Our firm's Hospitality and Restaurant team has years of experience advising and consulting on a broad range of these specific issues. Michael Silver & Company CPAs provides the full range of accounting & audit, tax, and consulting services to restaurant and beverage establishments, including:
Eric Larson, CPA — Partner
Eric's career has spanned several decades in public accounting, private industry, and as an owner/operator of several food industry businesses. He owned and operated a continental restaurant and night club in Chicago with partners, both of which earned notoriety and critical acclaim and participated as a vendor in the Taste of Chicago. After leaving the restaurant business, Eric continued his involvement with the Taste for several years, this time as part of event management, running the ticket sales and cash collections operations.
Eric and his partners also acquired two wholesale distributors to the food industry, which they merged, grew and later sold. As a CPA, his food industry experience has helped him in representing numerous restaurants and restaurant associations, providing traditional accounting and tax services, as well as profit/cost and menu pricing consulting, internal control reviews, and forensic reconstructions of income for litigation support projects.
